Down Home empowers lives by furnishing homes for families and individuals emerging from homelessness.
When Fraser referred us to Down Home, my husband, son, and I had just moved out of Fraser's transitional living program. We were expecting a little girl in 4 short months. For furniture, we only had a recliner, mattress on loan, and a play pen for our son to sleep in. Even though we were finally in our own apartment, it didn't feel like home...yet! Then we met with the wonderful people of Down Home. We figured it would just be some essential furniture, but they came and hung pictures, added lighting and even gave us a welcome home gift basket full of food and cook books! Now my babies get to sleep in their own beds, we have a comfy place to sit together as a family, a dining table to eat dinner together, AND an extension to our family: Down Home!
Down Home envisions a community where everyone lives in a supported, stable, and nurturing home.
Down Home changed my life with helping me start over for myself and my daughter. Being a part of their Empower Up program helped me find a better frame of mind. Down Home helped me with things I didn't have when I lost everything due to domestic violence. Since being served in 2018, I have been working at a job that I enjoy, I met and married the love of my life, and my daughter has continued to grow and flourish at school. I am grateful for Down Home, and I am proud to call them my family.
In partnership with the community, Down Home breaks down barriers for those emerging from homelessness. Here is a break down of our process.
